Economic Development & Global Engagement

Local

WSU engages locally by providing citizens with knowledge, skills, and tools for economic development

Washington State economyEconomic vitality for Washington State starts at the local level. Be it technology, aerospace, agriculture, or any number of small businesses, Washingtonians work hard to produce high quality products for our state and beyond. Washington State University is committed to helping drive this local economic development.

Through programs across the state as varied as the Small Business Development Centers, Agricultural Research Centers, and Extension Offices, WSU works to provide the tools, knowledge and skills people need to prosper in Washington.

Public and Private Partnerships

WSU partners with state agencies and industries to solve problems, form policy, and provide the research needed to advance Washington’s strengths. We work to sustain Washington’s foundation in agriculture through ongoing research, and also work to keep Washington on the cutting edge of economic development opportunities. For example, as Washington embraces clean technology we partner with state government and others to advocate for sustainable building practices, alternative biofuels , and energy efficiency . With the range of new jobs emerging in the clean energy sector, we are partnering with community and technical colleges to develop curriculum to provide the new workforce with the skills and knowledge necessary to develop green careers.
